Bringing a Vision to Life —Unprecedented Collaboration Transforming Columbus

The year 2012 will mark a historic time in Columbus’ history.

With ACP’s help, over the past several years the City and many private and institutional partners have listened to the voices of thousands of people to craft a common vision for Columbus that celebrates the City’s 200 years of history and helps launch its renaissance.  This “Blueprint for Bicentennial 2012” set a series of priorities for public and private partnerships to implement through the year 2012.

The Blueprint is now being implemented as a part of a wide agenda for celebrating the City, its history, and its great future potential. Jamie Greene of ACP Visioning+Planning was appointed as the program manager for this vast initiative, collectively named “200Columbus.”

200 Columbus LogoWhile dozens of annual civic events and festivals will be orchestrated by ACP under the 200Columbus banner this year, the 200Columbus effort expands “celebration” to encompass both physical and social elements that will work as catalysts for greater economic prosperity.

A Collaborative Community Gets Things Done
Over the past four years ACP has helped the City to advance a culture of unprecedented collaboration between a wide range of community leaders—a culture which has led to broadly supported initiatives and aggressive implementation.

Several high profile projects have already broken ground or been completed: the Scioto Mile Park along the City’s riverfront; the Columbus Commons, a transformation from dead mall to vibrant civic park space in the City’s core; the Art Museum renovation; the Nationwide Children’s Hospital expansion; downtown bridge replacements; and new Hilton Convention Hotel in downtown, to name a few. Throughout this year, many more projects—public art installations, a focus on bikeways, cultural programming, and neighborhood revitalization projects—will come to life throughout the city.

Building Recognition, Engagement and Pride Pays
Far-reaching, creative branding and outreach campaigns have helped to ensure that all projects work toward the 200Columbus goal of creating a community that is more inspired, proud and engaged in the progress and increasing vitality of Columbus—leading to a community that is better recognized locally and globally as one of the best places to live, work and visit.
