Cincinnati, Ohio Region
Cincinnati, Ohio Region ACP facilitated Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI)’s 180 member Land Use Commission and their process Where Do We Grow From Here?, an effort to bring about more synergy between local land use planning and regional transportation planning. The process fostered a regional dialogue with citizens and community leaders and uncovered preferred regional development patterns based on shared values. A Strategic Regional Policy Plan has been adopted by the Commission.
Highlights:
- Effort spanned 340 distinct jurisdictions and districts—including eight counties and three states.
- The region is consuming land five times faster than population growth. At the same time, the region may fall 3.5 billion dollars short in meeting its transportation needs. The implications of how policy decisions can affect the way the region grows and impact its quality of life were illustrated in visual form, modeled through a variety of environmental, social and economic indicators and presented for review at the public meetings.
- Final report was adopted without dissent by the Land Use Commission.
