Columbus, Ohio
ACP is assisting the City of Columbus in leading a transformational vision project that has challenged the 700,000+ residents to think big and think creatively about the future of the 225-square-mile city and its neighborhoods. The initiative, called Dream it Do it, will reach consensus on projects (based on 13 topical areas) and develop a list of neighborhood-based capital improvements that can be built or initiated by 2012, the City’s Bicentennial. Dream it Do it will ultimately be supported with a potential $1 billion bond package to ensure the projects and capital initiatives developed through the vision become a reality.
Highlights:
- Citizens were engaged through neighborhood surveys, a traveling 2012 Think Tank, a Youth Meeting with high school students, a College Symposium, structured interviews with members of the Somali and Latino communities, a Citizen Summit and neighborhood meetings.
- Over 1,600 participants registered for the Citizen Summit in advance and 250 people registered on-site the night of the ACP-facilitated event, marking the largest community meeting ever to take place in the City of Columbus.
- The summit utilized keypad response technology.
- The Bicentennial Bond Package will be placed before Columbus voters in November 2008.
