Kona Region
ACP, as a part of the Wilson Okamoto Corporation Team, designed and led an extensive public involvement process to develop a Community Development Plan (CDP) for the Kona, Hawaii region on the Big Island of Hawaii. The process was focused on how to manage growth and development in a manner that preserves the qualities that make Kona special.
Highlights:
- Over 100 public meetings and workshops were held throughout Kona over a period of eight months. These meetings integrated technical information, intuitive public input, scenarios and visualizations to enable the public to make informed decisions about a preferred future for Kona.
- The public involvement process was designed to engage a disperse population.
- The Kona CDP is the first to be enacted under the County of Hawaii General Plan and is designed to be a model for CDPs to be prepared for other regions of the island.
